The City of Hamilton is located in the Golden Horseshoe between Toronto and Niagara Falls. It is known by many names including “The Steel City”, “Steel Town” and “The Hammer” because of its reputation as a leading manufacturer of steel. World-renowned Industries like Stelco and ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc. call Hamilton their home and for good reason. But as hard as Hamiltonians work they play even harder when it comes to sports.
Hamilton has been involved in many aspects of sports for a long time. The first ever Commonwealth games were hosted in Hamilton back in 1924, and recently they lost the bid for the 2010 games to Delhi, India. But then there’s also hockey, football, baseball, curling, the list goes on and on….
Hamilton residents are avid sports fans. It is evident how devoted they are to their local teams, especially the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Hamilton Tiger Cats Football Club by the large following of loyal supporters that attend the home games and even some away games! Hamilton is truly a great city to live in especially if you’re a Sports Fan.
During the hockey season the Bulldogs play in Copps Coliseum in Downtown Hamilton. Some of their divisional rivals are within close proximity to the Dog Pound. To name a few, the Marlies are just a short trip down the 403 and QEW highways to Toronto and then there are our neighbours across the border in New York State, the Rochester Americans and the Syracuse Crunch. A good time is always guaranteed when we play these teams.
